A Word About Wolves:
The Gray Wolf, also known as the Timber Wolf is the largest wild member of the canine family.
Most of the adult grey wolves weigh in the vicinity of 75 to 125 pounds while some have been known to weigh as much as 179lbs. As large as wolves are, they usually appear to much larger because of their long hair. In the winter coat, the hair on their back and sides averages 2 to 2.5 inches. Gray Wolves are built for stamina and are ideal for long distance travel.
They are capable of covering several miles while trotting at speeds of about 4 miles per hour while during a chase wolves have been known to reach speeds approaching 65 miles per hour. Their paws are slightly webbed to help them navigate through and water. Small scent glands are located between a wolfs toes which leave a trace chemical to help them navigate their way.
Wolves travel in packs of between 2 to 20 wolves and will control a territory of about 20 miles.
